Speaking at your school or conference

A teacher shows a book to a classroom of young students, many of whom are raising their hands in a classroom setting.

One of my favorite parts of being an author is visiting schools to meet the readers. Just as much fun is meeting the book-loving educators and librarians!

A full-day author visit to your school includes 4 presentations (any grade level or group size). I request an honorarium, round-trip mileage or airfare, and lodging.

If you’re in South Dakota, the SD Arts Council can pay for half of this amount. (Please contact me for details.)

Below are samples of my presentations. I also have additional classroom writing workshops. Just ask for details.

The Girl Who Struck Out Babe Ruth

Dressed in a replica of a 1931 Chattanooga Lookouts baseball uniform, I dramatize the true story of Jackie Mitchell, the 17-year-old who struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.

This hands-on interactive presentation is a perpetual favorite for all ages (even adults!). I also show my stacks of drafts to reveals my research and writing process.

This presentation also allows students to analyze primary sources and to consider new ways to revise.

All ages. Group size: unlimited
Length: 50 min.
